The casinos of Atlantic City have decided not to question the vote of the workers to create the union, so they are organized for the first time in 25 years. The deadline for Harrah’s to question the vote was last Monday 17th. The United Auto Workers represents 900 croupiers from Caesars, along with keno employees.
The Union said that the Board of National Working Relations certified last Tuesday the results of the election, which made the negotiation with Caesars easier. The secretary of the Union, Elizabeth Bunn, said “This is another important step for casino workers in Atlantic City to join forces. We are proud to be able to help the employees of Caesars, Trump and all the casinos in Atlantic City”.
The croupiers of Trump Plaza are going to vote on May 31st to see if they are going to join the union, and there have been activities to accomplish the organization in other casinos of the city. Meanwhile, Caesars’ workers will elect a negotiation committee in the next weeks.
Many of the 45,000 casino workers are already represented by other unions, including many service employees, but up until last Monday, the croupiers didn’t have any representation.
