Matt Damon and Ben Affleck met at a charity poker event in Las Vegas. ‘Ante up for Africa’ was the name of the event, which aimed to raise money for victims of the genocide currently taking place in Darfur, Sudan.

The event took place at the Rio Hotel. Money raised was transferred to the International Rescue Committee and the Enough Project, both organizations working on providing relief to the region. Refugees have been estimated in two millions.

"I really hope it becomes an annual event. I hope it does and I hope it doesn't. I hope we can solve this issue and re-focus the efforts on something else in Africa," Damon said. The actor helped popularize poker in the movie ‘Rounders’, where his character, a reformed gambler, returns to the game to help a friend pay off a debt.

Other celebrities at the poker event were Adam Sandler, Ray Romano, Martin Sheen, Kefin James, Hank Azaria, Shannon Elizabeth and Don Cheadle. Aside from the game, Damon and Affleck are currently working together on a new script, their second after Oscar-winner 1998’s ‘Good Will Hunting’.
