Tuesday night was a regular night for the neighbors of South Beach, but that was because they were unaware of the illegal poker game that was taking place at the basement of a renowned art gallery of the area.
According to police investigations, an illegal poker tournament was taking place at the basement of D.C. Arts Gallery, when one of the players accused a fellow player of cheating, took out a gun and shot him dead. “The man was cheating, but that’s no reason for pulling out a gun and shooting him,” Detective Jim Rowlins said.
After the shooting, people started leaving the gallery, but police had already been notified by some passerby so they could arrest the man and some witnesses.
“Apparently, illegal poker games have been around for a while, but we did not notice them because of the good organization and rotation program. Because of this man’s death we could stop a millionaire illegal business,” Rowlins said.
The dead man was a banker from Palm Beach and the shooter a young man from the area. Detectives are still working on the case.
