The young professional poker player, Valdemar Kwaysser from Budapest, Hungary, has just won the second LAPT event in San José, Costa Rica. Although this is only his second major tournament, he has already come in 3rd place in the PokerStars Sunday Million, taking home $133,000.
In an interview, Kwaysser said that he had had some luck during the whole game in San José and had managed to make a considerable amount of money without any major risks. “I had some very lucky hands today as well but that’s poker. Sometimes you play perfectly and don’t get the results. This was different”, he said.
The event, the richest poker tournament held in Central America so far, lasted three days and had a total of 398 players from 35 different countries. 175 of them had won their places online with PokerStars, and in the final table, six of the nine players participating were PokerStars qualifiers.
The president of the LAPT, Glenn Cademartori, said: “We were expecting a robust field of players full of enthusiasm, but having nearly 400 players turn up is truly overwhelming. Costa Rica is a recognized leader of poker in Central America. We have very skilled players with a great deal of experience, and that has certainly been demonstrated here in San José”. The last event for Season 1 of the LAPT will take place in August and will be held in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
