ESPN to transmit WSOP final

ESPN will transmit the final table of the World Series of Poker. It will take place July 17th and will be available through Pay Per View (PPV) and online-video stream on ESPN.com.

It is the second time that ESPN transmits live to those that purchase the PPV service. The cost is $ 19,95. Those that do not hire the service will have to wait until October, when delayed coverage of the whole tournament will conclude.

Prohibiting online poker is not the way to go

Alfonso D’Amato, former senator from New York, said that prohibitions are a very serious mistake in the U.S. government. Currently a chairman of the Poker Players Alliance, D’Amato shared his opinion with a journalist from the Boston Herald. The article was published last Monday.

According to the former senator, only a meaningful regulation of online poker will have positive consequences for all parties involved: players, children, taxpayers, the economy and the society as a whole. He mentioned events occurred in 1920, when gambling prohibitions failed.

New poker room at the Pompano Park Casino

Following the recent decision of Florida’s lawmakers to sign into law new regulations that will increase the limits at state casino poker tables, the Isle Casino at Pompano Park opened a new poker room on its second floor with 34 poker tables. The opening of the new room also came a few days after the Hard Rock Casino inaugurated a non-smoking poker room.

“The Isle is now a complete gaming and dining destination,” facilities general manager and corporate vice president Doug Shipley said. He was making a reference to the new poker room, and also to the new restaurants and bars.

Yahoo! to enter the online poker market

Search engine Yahoo has announced that it will enter into the online gaming world with Yahoo Poker, an online poker room. The company has signed a partnership agreement with St. Minver Ltd., a Gibraltar-based online solutions provider for gaming networks.
The room, which will focus on the European poker market, will run on the International Poker Network (IPN) and combine important online and offline brands with the biggest online sports books. US residents are not accepted due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, currently in force.

UK poker clubs to fight online gambling law

The UK Poker Clubs Association, which has 72,000 members, has announced that it will fight the new Gambling Act to come into force next September. The Association claims that the new provisions will require poker clubs to apply for a casino license and since it limits the daily membership to £3, tournament prizes will be restricted.

“The imposition of casino licenses on poker clubs is neither appropriate nor fair and could result in the closure of many clubs,” Geoff Owen, Chairman of the UKPCA, explained.
