Aces & Eights, a poker bar located in Watson Boulevard next to Big Lots, expects to open on Friday, according to Mike Canez, who co-owns the bar with Laura Hill. It's in the space formerly occupied by Reputations Bar & Grill and will fill up the void left when Chevy's stopped having poker tournaments.

Aces & Eights acquired the building in July. It's pretty much ready to open, with the only delay being that a state inspector has to visit before a liquor license can be issued. That was expected to happen Monday.

The enormous success of online poker, casinos and sports betting has helped on the growth of a multi-billion dollar worldwide industry.

Gaming firms have brought prosperity to Gibraltar citizens, making economy grow and producing hundreds of jobs. However, the situation has suffered a serious halt with the new US online gambling laws. Almost half of the $6 billion a year spent on poker tables and other online gambling games came from the US.

Broken at a Poker Tournament

In less than 45 minutes the billionaire investor, Warren Buffet, went broke at a charity poker tournament.
Buffet, 76, is an avid Bridge player and got confused according to his own words. ''It's different than bridge; I was confused. I thought the low score won.''

The poker tournament had 50 amateur, celebrity and professional players registered, who played against each other in the Texas Hold’em version of the popular game.

Video Poker in Baltimore

A gaming proposal to raise the permitted number of poker machines at bars is being studied by the Baltimore City Council.

The council's Land Use and Transportation Committee will vote the proposal on Monday. The Committee Chairman, who co-owns a bar that has poker machines, will not vote the proposal. The Baltimore Licensed Beverage Association backed up the proposal, but the city finance and planning departments oppose the proposal.

Playboy-Moneymaker partnership

Some months ago, Chris Moneymaker, winner of the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event, and Playboy Enterprises started to develop merchandise related to the popular card game. So far, the enterprise has been a complete success. They started with a wide range of poker products such as poker chips with Playmate logos and pictures. Now, Moneymaker will launch his own unique training system, with a final party at the Playboy Mansion.
As of January 21st, Moneymaker Gaming will host weekends of poker instruction and parties at the Playboy Poker Camp.

Las Vegas Sands to launch online poker room

Las Vegas Sands, owner of The Venetian, Sands, Palazzo and Paiza brands, will launch its own online casino and poker room for the United Kingdom market. The company has partnered with Cantor Gaming for this project.

Cantor Gaming, an affiliate of Cantor Fitzgerald, will provide a state-of-the-art gambling service that will target Great Britain and enable Las Vegas Sands to enter a market that presents more potential than the USA market after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

UK Poker

Apparently, the UK government is going to allow playing cards –and playing poker for money- in Britain’s bars.

Gambling laws are going to be modified next year, so every pub will be able to hold poker games on their premises. Currently only pubs with an especial permit –that’s is quite hard to obtain- can hold poker games.

The amounts allowed to bet are going to be very controlled, and patrons will be able to bet only £10 per night.

Texas Hold’Em Charity Poker

Charity poker at Great Lakes Downs is now a real no-limit Texas Hold’em tournament.
Now that the Michigan Lottery’s Charitable Gaming Division has removed the $500 cap for charitable gaming events, organizers for the Fruitport Township increased the top prize money. As a direct result, even more people registered to the tournaments.
Organizers for Great Lakes Downs Texas Hold’em tournament reported the largest number of registered players for the poker tournament in their history, with 123 players and a top prize that exceeded $1,400.

Women make poker history

For the first time in the history of the World Poker Tour, two female competitors are among the final six. Kathy Liebert and Mimi Tran played against 607 players in the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods Casino Resort and finished within the six finalists.

Tran and Liebert are pioneers in the world of poker and they showed they can play as well as any male poker player. They both started ahead of their male counterparts in the final table. Tran was in second place and Liebert, who had previously won a World Series bracelet, started in third place.

Aston Martin Poker Tournament

In the last Bond movie, Casino Royale, you can see lots of action, poker games and the extraordinary Aston Martin DBS. This car is so exclusive that it will be sold as of late 2007 and will be built in a very small number.

The poker tournament winner will be the only person in the world, besides James Bond, that owns and drives a DBS.
