Gold reaches deal over WSOP prize

Jamie Gold’s lawyers announced that they have agreed to a court injunction that freezes half of the $12 million prize that Gold obtained as winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker. Gold was recently sued by Bruce Crispin, a Los Angeles executive, for an alleged deal to split the winnings.

The object of the injunction, to be signed by U.S. District Court Judge Roger L. Hunt, is to prevent the money from leaving the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the place where the tournament took place. The money should remain there until the case is closed.

Poker disaster

Tuesday night was a regular night for the neighbors of South Beach, but that was because they were unaware of the illegal poker game that was taking place at the basement of a renowned art gallery of the area.

According to police investigations, an illegal poker tournament was taking place at the basement of D.C. Arts Gallery, when one of the players accused a fellow player of cheating, took out a gun and shot him dead. “The man was cheating, but that’s no reason for pulling out a gun and shooting him,” Detective Jim Rowlins said.

Casino Margarita announced poker tournament

The Gran Casino Margarita organized for September, October and November four poker tournaments that will give out 3,000 million bolivars (U$S 1,400,00) in prizes.

After successfully holding the 15 big tournaments and counting with over 500 poker players from everywhere, in September the Gran Casino Margarita launches its Poker 2006, where over 500 players will be summoned.

James Bond hooked on Poker

British actor Daniel Craig was so enthusiastic with his poker lessons for the upcoming movie “Casino Royale” that he even plays it in his spare time.

The first blonde in the James Bond movie history had to learn how to play poker to look convincing on screen. Nevertheless, he liked the game so much that he is not only playing it for obligation, he is playing it for fun. “We all had to learn how to play it, but lets say there’s been some extra-curricular sessions of the set.”

Trillonario.com and VS Poker chose Boss Media

In Sweden, and with the cooperation of St Minver from Gibraltar, Boss Media has signed some agreements to cover the delivery of poker systems to Trillonario.com and also to VS Poker. These agreements also contemplate South America.

Trillonario.com has been established as a service provider for players that participate of the great lotteries around the world. The site performs as a messenger and buys lottery tickets in the name of the clients.

World Series of Poker

The 59-year-old Newark native, John Ghiloni, won $14,000 after spending only $1,000 and beating 1,806 people in a Texas Hold’em tournament that took place at the Reo Casino in Las Vegas and gave him the opportunity to play at the WSOP.

Poker popularity continues to increase and each year more and more people register to play at the famous poker tournament. Ghiloni played 22 hours in two days to win his prize.

Irish Poker Open 2007

The Irish Poker Open, the most important poker tournament in Ireland and Europe’s most historic one, comes back for its 26th edition. Approximately 800 players will take part in it and they will compete for a €2 million prize.

The tournament will be held in Dublin during Easter Weekend 2007 but qualifying rounds start as from August 27th, 2006. The buy in for the Irish Poker Open 2007 is €3,300 with a €200 registration fee.

World Strip Poker Championship in London

More than 200 male and female players from 12 countries competed to win the £10,000 prize of the first World Strip Poker Championship plus the Golden Fig Leaf trophy. Journalist John Young was the winner.

The event was organized by Paddy Power, an Irish bookmaker. A spokesperson for the company explained that it decided to hold the tournament due to the interest generated by an April Fool joke.

D. Negreanu hosts 2nd season of poker show

Part two of Negreanu's Protégé, where an ordinary person can become a poker star, will be launched in December. The winner of this contest will receive four $10,000 buy-ins into important poker tournaments, personal instruction from Negreanu and the opportunity to experience the Vegas-style VIP life.

Brian Fidler, Negreanu’s first protégé, won $200,000 in only six weeks and finished 2nd at the WSOP circuit event in Lake Tahoe. He has appeared in several television shows since then and has become a celebrity.

Jamie Gold invited to High Stakes Poker

Jamie Gold, the winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker, has been invited by GSN to play in the next season of High Stakes Poker. Gold recently defeated more than 8,000 and won over $12 million.

If Gold accepts GSN’s invitation, he will take part in a game where top players put up $100,000 of their own money in order to play. The High Stakes Poker III will be taped in Las Vegas. The location and list of participants have not been disclosed yet.
